Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Role
We are looking for a motivated and adaptable Mechanical Design Engineer to join a busy engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing mechanical designs from initial concept through to completion, working across a range of engineering projects.
You will use 3D CAD software to develop and improve designs, working closely with manufacturing, production, operations and project management teams to ensure products are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture and assembly. The role will also involve supporting new product development, improving existing designs and contributing to continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Take designs from initial concept through to detailed design and completion.
- Collaborate with engineering colleagues on mechanical, electrical and automation projects.
- Support project planning, customer liaison and coordination between departments to meet key milestones.
- Contribute to new product development, concept design and existing product improvements.
- Apply design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles to improve product efficiency and practicality.
- Assess product suitability, manufacturing feasibility and overall cost.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing and assembly times and costs.
- Support improvements in product quality, reliability and performance.
- Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, including assembly and installation instructions.
- Work with manufacturing and production teams to resolve design-related issues.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers where required to support project delivery.
- Consider engineering materials, manufacturing processes and relevant health and safety requirements throughout the design process.
