Junior Estimator
Job Description
We are recruiting a Junior Estimator on behalf of a well-established engineering and fabrication business based on Teesside.
Working alongside experienced estimators and reporting to the Proposals Engineer, you will support the preparation of accurate quotations and tender submissions for engineering and fabrication projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career who is keen to develop their technical, commercial and estimating knowledge within a practical engineering environment.
The role
As a Junior Estimator, you will review customer enquiries, technical drawings and specifications to help establish the material, labour, subcontractor, plant and equipment costs associated with each project.
You will work closely with estimating, engineering, production, planning, procurement and supply chain teams, gaining valuable experience in fabrication methods, commercial costing and project delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
and#9670; Assisting with the review of customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and scope of work documents
and#9670; Learning to interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, bills of materials and technical specifications
and#9670; Supporting the preparation of cost estimates for materials, labour, subcontracted services, plant and equipment
and#9670; Obtaining and comparing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
and#9670; Assisting with the preparation of tender documents and quotation packages
and#9670; Maintaining estimating records, cost databases and quotation registers
and#9670; Liaising with internal departments to gather the information required for accurate estimates
and#9670; Supporting the development of labour rates, production assumptions and costing models
and#9670; Helping to identify technical and commercial risks within tender enquiries
and#9670; Participating in project handover meetings following contract awards
and#9670; Comparing actual project costs against estimates and identifying lessons learned
and#9670; Developing your understanding of fabrication, welding, machining and assembly processes
and#9670; Undertaking shop-floor efficiency studies and providing feedback
and#9670; Ensuring work complies with company procedures, quality standards and customer specifications
About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you should have:
and#9670; An HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in engineering, manufacturing, construction or a related discipline
and#9670; Some experience within an engineering, fabrication or manufacturing environment
and#9670; The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
and#9670; Good numerical and analytical skills
and#9670; Strong attention to detail
and#9670; Competence in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
and#9670; Good communication and organisational skills
and#9670; The ability to work effectively as part of a team
and#9670; A genuine willingness to develop your technical and commercial knowledge
Knowledge of steel fabrication, welding or Lean Manufacturing would be beneficial, although Lean Manufacturing training will be provided.
