HSE Advisor - Construction & Refurbishment
Location: Coventry, with regular travel across the Midlands and surrounding areas

Employment: Permanent
Greys Specialist Recruitment is working with a growing contractor delivering construction and refurbishment projects across commercial, industrial and FMCG environments.
We are recruiting an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor to support multiple projects and help maintain consistently high standards across the business.
This is not a development role for someone looking to move into Health and Safety for the first time. Applicants must already have experience working as an H&S Advisor, alongside a strong background in construction and refurbishment projects.
Experience within FMCG or another live operational environment is also essential. You must understand the additional controls required when construction or refurbishment work is being completed alongside an operational workforce, production process, client team or occupied facility.
The role
Working closely with site teams, management and clients, you will promote a positive safety culture and provide practical HSE support across multiple projects.
You will need the confidence to challenge unsafe practices, advise operational teams and maintain strong working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out regular site inspections, safety audits and compliance reviews.
- Advising management and site teams on health, safety and environmental matters.
- Ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act, CDM Regulations and other relevant UK legislation.
- Producing and reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Identifying root causes and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings and other site-based safety communications.
- Monitoring subcontractor compliance with company procedures and safety standards.
- Supporting ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Maintaining accurate HSE records, reports and supporting documentation.
- Supporting clients during audits and inspections.
- Promoting continuous improvement and a proactive safety culture across all projects.
Essential experience and qualifications
To be considered, you must have:
- A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
- Previous experience working in a dedicated Health and Safety Advisor position.
- Strong construction and refurbishment experience.
- Experience supporting projects within FMCG or another live operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation.
- Practical knowledge of the CDM Regulations.
- Experience producing and reviewing RAMS.
- The communication skills to influence site teams, management, subcontractors and clients.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The ability and willingness to travel regularly across the Midlands and surrounding areas.
Applications without established construction/refurbishment and live operational-site experience are unlikely to be suitable.
Desirable experience
The following would strengthen your application:
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- TechIOSH or GradIOSH membership.
- Experience supporting ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
Package and benefits
The successful candidate will receive:
£45,000 annual salary + company van.
