Help Deliver One of HS2's Major Heavy Civils Projects

Are you an experienced heavy civils professional looking to use your construction knowledge in a client-side role on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects?

High Speed Two Ltd is looking for a Construction Manager to support construction assurance across a major section of the EKFB Main Works Civils Contract near Aylesbury.

Working alongside the EKFB Joint Venture, comprising Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial and BAM Nuttall, you will help ensure that construction activities are delivered safely, to the required quality and in accordance with approved designs, construction methodologies, HS2 requirements and contractual obligations.

This is a practical, site focused role where your experience matters. You will provide constructability assurance, review high risk activities and challenge delivery teams where necessary, helping ensure that the works are being carried out correctly and safely.

The role could suit an experienced Construction Manager, Works Manager, General Foreman, Site Manager, Sub Agent or Section Engineer from a heavy civils background who wants to develop towards senior client side construction management.

The Project

The EKFB Main Works Civils Contract is valued at approximately £4bn and covers major infrastructure along HS2's central section.

Your work will focus on a rural section of approximately 20km near Aylesbury, involving a range of complex civil engineering activities, including:

  • Large scale earthworks, cuttings and embankments.
  • Bridges, viaducts and associated structures.
  • Roads and associated infrastructure.
  • Major civils construction activities involving complex site conditions and interfaces.

You will gain exposure to a major infrastructure programme with a long term pipeline of work across civils, stations and railway systems.

What You Will Do

  • Provide client side construction assurance across site activities, ensuring works comply with approved designs, methodologies, standards and contractual requirements.
  • Review Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and other construction documentation.
  • Apply a risk based approach to constructability assurance, focusing on activities such as heavy lifting, earthworks, poor ground conditions and working at height.
  • Undertake site inspections and participate in safety tours, identifying concerns and following up corrective actions.
  • Check that construction activities are being carried out in accordance with approved methods and required quality standards.
  • Provide practical construction advice to HS2 Project Managers, drawing on your site experience to identify risks and challenge proposals where appropriate.
  • Support CDM compliance and construction safety assurance.
  • Manage interfaces between contractors, delivery teams and other project stakeholders.
  • Identify construction risks and help ensure they are appropriately managed before they affect safety, quality or programme delivery.

About You

We are open to candidates from both trade and engineering backgrounds. What matters most is your practical experience of delivering heavy civils works and your ability to assess construction activities, identify risks and challenge delivery teams confidently.

You could currently be a Construction Manager, Works Manager, General Foreman, Site Manager, Sub Agent, Section Engineer, NEC3 Supervisor or Clerk of Works.

Your experience could come from major rail, highways, water, structures, earthworks or other heavy civil engineering projects.

You will need to be confident on site, able to interpret technical drawings and construction documentation, and comfortable working with contractors, engineers and client representatives.

Essential Requirements

  • Significant practical experience in heavy civil engineering construction.
  • Experience on major infrastructure or complex construction projects.
  • Minimum CSCS and SMSTS qualifications.
  • Good understanding of construction safety, CDM Regulations 2015 and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work plans, RAMS and construction documentation.
  • Experience identifying construction risks and checking that works follow approved methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with contractors and multiple stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to safety, quality and construction assurance.
  • Ability to commute to the Aylesbury site within approximately 90 minutes each way.

Why Join HS2?

This is an opportunity to apply your construction experience on a nationally significant infrastructure project while moving into a client side assurance role.

You will work alongside experienced construction and engineering professionals, gaining exposure to major civils delivery, contractor assurance, technical interfaces and wider programme requirements.

There is a clear progression route to Senior Construction Manager, with salaries of £80,000 to £90,000 plus package.

For an experienced heavy civils professional who knows how construction works on the ground and wants to take the next step in their career, this is an opportunity to build towards senior construction management while contributing to one of the UK's most important infrastructure programmes.
